Sadism And Masochism: A World In The Dark
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The term sets jaws on edge and causes people to avert their eyes away from the person who has the audacity to give voice to such an unconventional activity. It is considered so integral to fringe society that few people want to admit knowing many details for fear they will be labeled as being abnormal. The entire topic of sex, after all, is still taboo for a considerable portion of society, with people conversing about it in very finite social boundaries. When the discussion changes direction to incorporate sadism and masochism, however, the involuntary reaction many people have illustrates the extent to which sexual subcultures are not readily socially acceptable. Unconventionality notwithstanding, the S&M community represents a sexual subculture whereby the giving and receiving of pain is the primary focus, a concept that is both rich in history and quite prevalent in contemporary society. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Sex Addiction: Not Scientifically Supported
[ send me this paper ]
14 pages in length. Addiction has become a generalized word thrown around with reckless abandon as much as crazy, gay or stupid. To look at the actual meaning of these words is to find just how deeply they have become embedded within a lexicon that not only dilutes definitions but also adds connotations that have absolutely nothing to do with the human target at which it is being hurled. According to Siegal et al (2007), in order to be an addict one must have a disease that needs to be cured. Hypersexuality in and of itself, the authors contend, is neither akin to true addictive behavior nor in need of healing but instead a very natural, regular activity for some human beings and not for others. To ascertain if such behavior is considered normal is to first define normality, which is precisely where perceived morals become inextricably - as well as inappropriately - intertwined with the notion of sexual "addiction." Bibliography lists one source.
